Where things stand

Voice Heritage is still being built, and no families use it yet. This page describes how we plan to handle data. The full privacy policy, reviewed by a lawyer, will be published here before the first families join the beta.

Our principles

• Consent from the person themselves. A voice is only created from recordings its owner makes in the app, after they give their consent. We don't copy voices from old recordings of people who can't agree.
• Always labelled. Anything made by AI is marked as AI-generated.
• Families are sealed off from each other. Only members of a family can see its people and stories.
• Real deletion. Deleting a recording, a voice or an account removes it, and we ask our service providers to delete their copies.
• As little data as possible. Usage statistics and error reports never contain names, email addresses, audio or transcripts.
• No training on family data. We switch off provider settings that would allow it.

What we plan to keep

• Your account: email address, name, language and time zone.
• Your family: its name, members, roles, and the people in it.
• Voice recordings, with the consent that goes with them, and the stories and transcripts your family adds.
• Lesson progress, and, later, subscription status.

Our database is in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). Sign-in and invitation emails are sent through a provider in the EU. Other providers, such as the voice service, are still being chosen; each will receive only what it needs, and will be listed in the full policy.

Your choices

We're building the app so that you can see and download your data, correct it, delete a recording, a voice or your whole account, and withdraw consent for your voice at any time.
